Recently, sacks of unloved shoes of all types, shapes and sizes were picked up from Oswestry Cambrian Rotary as well as Bala, Penlyn and Llanidloes clubs and delivered to the Nottingham HQ of the charity Shoe Aid. The shoes will be distributed throughout the UK.
Mike Lade from Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club said, “This is a really good example of clubs working together, not only to help others in need, but to benefit the environment and prevent these shoes going to landfill.
“There are thousands of men, women, and children who wear footwear that is not fit for purpose. At least 280,000 homeless people (10,000 living on the streets) have no shoes or shoes that are falling to pieces and that place is the UK.
“Shoe Aid is working with some of the largest organisations in the UK to reduce footwear poverty and reduce footwear waste and its impact on the environment, all of which are helping Shoe Aid deliver its mission.”
The Oswestry Cambrian Rotary is ready to welcome individuals and couples of 18+ from the local community who want to be “people of action”. We normally meet face-to-face, if restrictions allow, at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm and meet in the bar. Alternatively, people can join the meeting from wherever they are via our Zoom account connection.
