Oswestry Cancer Buddies welcomed Tarrah Lewis from Shropshire PCAS (Peer Counselling and Advocacy Services) to their latest meeting to learn more about the support available to people living with disabilities.

Founded in 1995 by the Shropshire Disability Consortium, PCAS provides a community-based independent advocacy service for people aged 18 and over with any disability across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Tarrah explained: “The service was established by disabled people who recognised the need for individuals to be supported so that their voices could be heard. Our team of advocates helps clients tackle isolation and make informed decisions about their welfare. We also work alongside service providers, including local authorities, housing associations and utility companies, to ensure commitments are honoured and promises are fulfilled.”

Oswestry Cancer Buddies founder Linda Lade said: “It’s reassuring to know that this organisation exists to support disabled residents in our community. It is important to remember that anyone diagnosed with cancer is classified as disabled under the Equality Act, meaning this valuable service is available to them.”

Anyone wishing to contact PCAS can email simon@shropshirepcas.co.uk or call 01691 658008.

Oswestry Cancer Buddies meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 2.30pm to 3.30pm in the Meeting Room at Oswestry Library, Arthur Street. Linda welcomes everyone with a smile and a cup of tea.
