This week attendees at Oswestry Cancer Buddies enjoyed a talk about the importance of talking therapies from local, trained and experienced psychotherapist Jill Butterfield.

Jill’s journey into psychological therapies began in 2002, when she first became involved in delivering critical incident stress management (CISM) debriefs for crews in Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service. Since then, she continued to grow and develop her professional practice, gaining extensive experience across the public, private and voluntary sectors. She is currently working with the Oxford Fire and Rescue Service and the crews that recently lost two colleagues in service.

Jill delivers a blend of psychology, person-centred counselling, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), clinical hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) into a bespoke package specifically tailored to the person’s needs, helping them to move forward with clarity, control and confidence.

Jill said, “I believe therapy should never be one-size-fits-all. The more tools I have in my therapeutic toolkit, the better I can respond to the individual needs, pace, and goals of each person I support. Bespoke isn’t just a buzzword — for me, it’s a commitment to offering the right support, in the right way, at the right time.”

Linda Lade, Founder and group leader, herself in remission from breast cancer said, “Having Jill Butterfield with us was so important today because that thought of having cancer never leaves us, even when in remission. After the initial treatment and the ‘recovery’ period for the body to heal you are cast adrift to cope, but the mind doesn’t heal at anywhere near the same rate – hence the need for psychotherapy support.”
