Oswestry markets are excited to be part of this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign, a nationwide celebration of community, creativity, and commerce, run by NABMA – The National Association of British Market Authorities.
The 2025 campaign takes place from Friday 16 May to Saturday 31 May, with hundreds of markets across the country uniting to showcase the energy, creativity, and entrepreneurship that thrive at the heart of our high streets.
This year’s campaign message ‘Made by Markets’ reflects everything that local markets nurture – new businesses, fresh food, community spirit, local culture, sustainable choices, and inclusive spaces. It’s about recognising that what we love most about our towns and cities is often built right here, at the market.
Oswestry markets will be celebrating local traders throughout the fortnight. As well as regular markets on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, BBC Radio Shropshire will be broadcasting live from the street market on Wednesday 21 May.
On Saturday 24 May, there will be live music on the Bailey Head for shoppers to enjoy and on Friday 30 May, an extra special Artisan and Garden Market with great local produce and plants galore comes to town. Later that Friday, there will be a Late Night Indoor Market with live music, food and drinks from 6-10pm.
NABMA’s Chief Executive, David Preston, said: “Love Your Local Market is more than a campaign – it’s a movement that brings together markets, customers and communities. This year’s theme ‘Made by Markets’ captures the essential role markets play in building businesses, culture and belonging. It’s an invitation to shop local, support local, and celebrate everything that markets make possible.”
By supporting #LYLM2025, Oswestry joins hundreds of other UK markets in championing local pride and promoting sustainable, grassroots economic growth.
Arren Roberts, Oswestry Town Council Clerk, said: “Oswestry market has been at the heart of community life for centuries, and we are proud of this heritage. We see Love Your Local Market fortnight as a great opportunity to celebrate our fantastic traders who help make our markets so special.”
