Last year marked the 21st annual Sunday Lunch celebrating St George and all things English. The tradition began some years ago when a small group of friends observed that while St David and St Patrick are widely celebrated, St George often receives far less recognition. From that observation, an annual St George’s Day Lunch was born.
The 2026 St George’s Day Lunch will take place on Sunday 26 April and will once again be hosted by Oswestry Cricket Club. Guests will be welcomed with a glass of fizz on arrival, followed by a three-course traditional Sunday roast lunch, served and provided by Oak Apple Catering.
The afternoon will include a post-lunch guest speaker, and guests will join together to acknowledge St George and England by singing Jerusalem, followed by the National Anthem to recognise the wider United Kingdom and the Commonwealth (lyrics will be provided).
Many attendees return year after year, but the organisers are keen to reconnect with guests who may have attended in the past and lost touch. Anyone who has previously attended, or those interested in joining a future lunch, are invited to get in touch by emailing: stgeorgesday2304@gmail.com with their name and contact details, and to mention if they have attended before.
