The thirteenth annual Oswestry Community Games proved to be another outstanding success, with favourable weather helping attract around 1,000 people of all ages to Cae Glas Park for a day of free community activities.

Running from 11am to 4pm, the event exceeded organisers’ expectations as visitors enjoyed a wide range of opportunities provided by diverse local organisations, including sports, dance and other activities. Live music was once again provided by Bartells, adding to the community atmosphere throughout the day.

Event Lead Organiser James Manford said: “It was a delight to be in our beautiful park again and to see so many activities taking place. Many thanks go to our local sponsors – Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry BID, Oswestry Sports Forum, Bunning Gas, DRE Accountants, Perspective Finance Group, Oswestry Rotary – Mary Hignett Fund, and our media partner Oswestry Life Magazine, who all help make this event possible.

“Thanks also go to all the club volunteers and helpers who gave their time so willingly, our Guest of Honour Nick Beighton, and Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth, who acted as MC.

“Special thanks also go to David Osselton from Oswestry Photographic Society for once again being our official photographer, Mal Molloy as videographer, Oswestry Town Mayor Councillor Jonathan Upton, Town Crier Phil Brown, and Head Park Keeper Sue Cameron and her team for making the park look fantastic.

“Finally, I would like to thank my colleagues Kelly Clarke, Clive Knight and Carron Boulton, who work tirelessly throughout the year to help make this great community event happen.”

At the closing ceremony, Oswestry Town Mayor Councillor Jonathan Upton thanked everyone involved for their support, with special recognition given to the volunteers and organisers. He also spoke about how much he had enjoyed taking part in many of the activities available throughout the day.

Guest of Honour Nick Beighton delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging people to make the most of the many local opportunities available to support and improve both physical and mental health.

The Games came to a spectacular close with Border Counties School of Gymnastics delivering a series of impressive performances featuring members from a wide range of age groups.

Organisers thanked everyone who attended, supported and contributed to making the 2026 Oswestry Community Games another memorable celebration of local community spirit.
