Oswestry Dark Morris is calling on local recorder players to dust off their instruments and become part of the growing Morris side.
Anyone who played the recorder at school – or who still enjoys playing today – is being encouraged to bring their instrument along to one of the group’s Wednesday evening practice sessions and join the musicians providing the soundtrack for the dancers.
Oswestry Dark Morris meets every Wednesday evening for rehearsals and dance practice at The Last Inn in Upper Hengoed.
The group performs Border Morris, a high-energy and traditionally lively style of English folk dance originating from the Welsh border counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
As a relatively new Morris side, Oswestry Dark Morris is keen to welcome new members aged 16 and over. No previous Morris dancing experience is required, and anyone interested in giving it a try will receive a warm welcome.
The side is also looking for musicians who have their own instruments, with flute, tin whistle, fiddle, guitar, recorder, banjo, accordion, concertina and drum players among those encouraged to get involved.
