Oswestry Dark Morris has received a welcome boost thanks to the generosity of Clerical Error Morris, a Morris side from Holywell in North Wales.
The group has kindly donated a bass drum and several marching snare drums, which will provide an important addition to Oswestry Dark Morris’s growing group of musicians.
Founder Mike Lade said: “Oswestry Dark Morris is extremely grateful to Clerical Error Morris for its encouragement and support, and particularly for kindly donating the drums.
“They will be a very welcome addition for the musicians, helping to provide the strong beat that is so important to this lively style of folk music.”
Oswestry Dark Morris performs Border Morris, a high-energy and traditionally rowdy style of English folk dance originating in the Welsh border counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The group meets every Wednesday evening for dance practice at The Last Inn in Upper Hengoed. Anyone interested is welcome to come along, meet the group and see what it does.
Oswestry Dark Morris welcomes anyone aged 16 or over who would like to join the new Morris group — traditionally known as a “side”. No previous dancing experience is necessary.
Musicians with their own instruments are also welcome, including those who play the flute, tin whistle, fiddle, guitar, recorder, banjo, accordion or concertina.
