Oswestry Dark Morris has thanked local business Serendipity Crafts by Raven for its support in helping the group prepare for its forthcoming performances.
The group has expressed its thanks to Beth at Serendipity Crafts by Raven for supplying its T-shirts and for adding the Oswestry Dark Morris logo to the bass and snare drums recently gifted to the group.
Oswestry Dark Morris will make its first public outing at the Oswestry Christmas Parade on Saturday, 5 December, when members will take part dressed in their traditional tatter suits, hats and masks or make-up, in keeping with the traditions of Border Morris.
The group meets every Wednesday evening for its weekly gathering and dance practice at The Last Inn, Upper Hengoed, and anyone interested in finding out more is welcome to come along.
Oswestry Dark Morris also welcomes those who may not wish to dance but would like to support the group, enjoy the social side of Morris and take part in events dressed in traditional Morris attire.
Morris dancing has a long history dating back centuries, with references going back to the 15th century. Border Morris is a lively form of traditional folk dancing historically associated with communities along the English-Welsh border. It was traditionally performed during the winter months, with agricultural workers dancing to supplement their income.
Today, the Border Morris tradition is kept alive by lively, mixed-gender sides across the UK, performing at pubs, folk festivals and community gatherings.
Oswestry Dark Morris welcomes anyone aged 16 and over who would like to become part of the side. No previous experience is necessary for those interested in dancing.
Musicians are also warmly welcomed, particularly those who play their own instruments, including flute, tin whistle, fiddle, guitar, recorder, banjo, accordion or concertina.
