An Oswestry financial planning firm is throwing its support behind the county’s cadets – in a move that also restores a family connection dating back more than 40 years.
Oswestry-based Una Vita Financial Planning – founded by former cadet Alasdair Coutts‑Britton – has announced a new sponsorship partnership with the Shropshire Army Cadet Force (ACF).
The support reflects Una Vita’s commitment to backing local organisations where its contribution will make a meaningful and lasting difference.
Alasdair – whose own military journey began in the Combined Cadet Force at school, continued through the Officer Training Corps at university and led him to Sandhurst and into the Regular Army – said the sponsorship had also brought him back into contact with an old family friend.
“The current Honorary Colonel of the Shropshire ACF is Colonel Marius Coulon, who served under my father between 1980 and 1984 when he commanded the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers,” Alasdair said.
“I hadn’t seen Marius since I was a child, so reconnecting after all these years has been wonderful. It also shows just how personal this commitment is for both me and Una Vita.
“The cadets are an incredible force for good in Shropshire, giving young people comradeship, shared values, a sense of purpose and the chance to enjoy outdoor pursuits and develop vital life skills.
“I wanted to support something local and know that our contribution would make a significant impact. Supporting the cadets does exactly that.
“It will help the next generation build the same confidence and self-belief that has shaped my own life and now underpins the ethos of Una Vita itself.
“Being in the cadets showed me that with focus, goals are achievable. That’s what we do at Una Vita too – we look at all aspects of someone’s life and build a plan that helps them live the life they want.”
Colonel Coulon said he was delighted to welcome Una Vita’s support.
“Alasdair’s connection to the cadets gives this partnership real depth and it has been great fun renewing our family links.
“We rely on the commitment of local supporters to help us provide opportunities for young people across Shropshire and Una Vita’s sponsorship will make a genuine difference.”
Alasdair has more than 25 years’ experience in the financial sector, including a decade in the City of London. Una Vita serves clients across Shropshire, Mid and North Wales and parts of Staffordshire and Cheshire from its base in Arthur Street, Oswestry.
