Over 120 people gathered at Oswestry Memorial Hall on Smithfield Street on Monday evening for the Oswestry in Bloom Awards, a vibrant celebration of the town’s gardens, shopfronts, schools, and community spirit.

The event honoured winners across 14 categories, recognising the incredible contributions made by residents, businesses, schools, and community groups. Organised by a dedicated team of volunteers, Oswestry in Bloom is strongly supported by Oswestry Town Council and Oswestry BID.

Natalie Bainbridge, Chair of Oswestry in Bloom, welcomed attendees and reflected on the town’s remarkable achievements. She spoke of the importance of “community pride” and how everyone caring for their “little bit” of the town helps to keep Oswestry beautiful for all.

Natalie highlighted the busy summer schedule, including a three-hour whistle-stop tour for the Heart of England in Bloom judges on 25th July, followed by a second showcase for the Britain in Bloom judges on 6th August—offering Oswestry a national platform to shine.

The evening was hosted by former BBC presenter James Bond, with photography by Graham (Grum) Mitchell. Thanks were extended to sponsors and local businesses for their continued support of individual awards, strengthening ties between the business and wider community.

Special recognition was given to the Oswestry Town Council Maintenance Team for their tireless work, especially early-morning watering of hanging baskets, which keeps the town’s floral displays thriving.

A particularly moving moment came with a tribute to the Ukrainian community, who planted an orchard in gratitude for the town’s hospitality over the past three years—a generous and lasting expression of thanks and resilience.

The prestigious Chair’s Award was presented to Carl Hopley of The Marches School by last year’s recipient, Adele Nightingale, BID Manager. Carl was honoured for his inspiring work with young people in environmental education and horticulture.

With previous accolades already under their belt, the Oswestry in Bloom committee now looks ahead to the Britain in Bloom national awards in Brighton at the end of the month—hopeful for even more success.
