Oswestry Lions recently awarded Oswestry Team Tennis; an LTA registered tennis club based in Cae Glas Park a grant of £10,000 towards its clubhouse project.

This amazing gesture has taken the club to within £16,000 of its target and is now in touching distance of achieving its aim of providing a clubhouse to replace the redundant workshop adjacent to the tennis courts.

This remarkable project for such a small club was started by Mike Markham, Head Coach who sadly died of cancer in 2018 at the too young age of 63, when he gifted the club £20,000 in his will in 2018 to kickstart the club’s fundraising, which now totals almost £87,000.

Oswestry Lions has worked within the local area since it was formed in 1974, supporting many local organisations and individuals over the years.  They have offered numerous bursaries to those who have applied in areas such as music and sport.  Their mission is to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.

“We are delighted to support OTT with our grant, and we very much look forward to seeing their club house come to fruition.  Helping our local community is the forefront of what we do.  We are always looking for volunteers and additional ideas on ways to raise awareness of Oswestry Lions and of course create funds through fundraising challenges.”

Clive Knight – Chairman and Trustee of OTT said: –

“Since obtaining planning permission to demolish the redundant Council workshop and replace with a clubhouse modular building at the end of August, we have achieved so much in gaining five local grants amounting to £17,000 including Oswestry Lions. With this level of local support demonstrated, our club is now in a position to apply for national grants to reach our financial target of £103,000 when we can start the next phase of our Clubhouse project.”
