Oswestry Makers Market is returning to Oswestry Memorial Hall on Saturday 6 September 2026 with a special fundraising event in support of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), combining the best of local creativity with a life-saving cause.
Visitors can enjoy a vibrant market featuring talented local artists, makers and independent businesses, alongside delicious refreshments, fundraising activities and a warm community atmosphere. Every purchase and donation will help raise vital funds to bring a CRY cardiac screening day to the local community.
The fundraiser has been inspired by the memory of Beth, who tragically passed away at just 19 years old from an undiagnosed heart condition. Her loss has become the driving force behind efforts to increase awareness of hidden heart conditions and make potentially life-saving cardiac screening available for young people in the area.
Three years ago, organiser Maddy Moore’s best friend experienced every parent’s worst nightmare when she lost her daughter suddenly to an undiagnosed heart condition. The tragedy highlighted the devastating reality that young, seemingly healthy people can be living with hidden cardiac conditions without showing any warning signs.
Funds raised from the September market will support Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in bringing a cardiac screening event to Oswestry, giving young people the opportunity to be tested for potentially life-threatening heart conditions before tragedy strikes.
According to CRY, at least 12 young people die every week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions. Around 80% experience no warning symptoms, while CRY’s screening programme has identified a potentially life-threatening heart condition in approximately one in every 300 young people screened.
