More than 40 members of Claire’s Slimming World in Oswestry took part in Shrewsbury’s Race for Life on Sunday 2nd June and raised over £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Some ran, some jogged and some walked the 5k distance, but they all completed it and Claire, the consultant from Oswestry couldn’t have been prouder.
Claire Morris said ‘Some of my members haven’t done any physical activity in years, but with Slimming Worlds unique physical activity programme called Body Magic, they have started to become active and with the support of all of my groups, absolutely smashed the 5k!
In my groups, we help members to make changes to the way they shop, cook and eat to lose weight but also we help them to start to build in an active lifestyle too. It’s an easy to follow programme that can be built into busy lifestyles so everyone can do it. One of the benefits of losing weight and being more active is that it can reduce the risk of developing some types of cancer such as breast, bowel, womb, ovarian and gall bladder cancer.
Through weekly support in group, members are encouraged to move more and help them make physical activity an enjoyable part of their everyday life. They also meet other like minded people, make friends and have fun and that’s exactly what we had in Shrewsbury. The sun was shining and we all enjoyed the team spirit of the Cabin Lane Crew.
