Oswestry Town Council, Oswestry BID and Visit Oswestry are putting on some great free events in the town centre this Spring. With the cost of living hitting everyone’s pockets, these family events can be enjoyed at little or no cost and are sure to be popular with Oswestry residents and visitors alike.
Family Fun Day – Good Friday 7th April (Oswestry Town Council / Oswestry Town Markets)
On Good Friday, there will be the town’s annual Family Fun Day. Located on the Bailey Head in the heart of Oswestry’s market square, you can enjoy an Easter hunt, storytelling, mascots, children’s face-painting, inflatable slide, donkeys and children’s rides. The bustling street and indoor markets will be open too with plenty of delicious treats, gifts and crafts. There will be a small charge for the children’s rides.
Street Circus Bus – Easter Saturday 8th April (Oswestry BID).
The highly popular Street Circus Bus comes to town, with street performances on the Bailey Head, in Oswestry’s market square. You may also catch the cheeky performers on walkabout through the town, causing mischief and mayhem wherever they go! Don’t miss the dare-devil acrobats and magicians. The circus starts from 11am to 4pm.
The Return of the Oswestry Guided Town Tour – Saturdays from 8th April (Visit Oswestry).
Discover Oswestry’s historic, industrial and cultural heritage with a Guided Tour from the ‘Visit Oswestry’ team – the first of the Spring/Summer season . Hear local stories, learn about Oswestry heroes and appreciate the beautiful architecture of buildings and sculptures. Start from The Tourist Information Centre, Castle View on April 8th at 11am and then every Saturday until the Autumn. Donations welcome.
Coronation Live, Cae Glas Park – Saturday 6th May (Oswestry Town Council)
Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy a live screening of the King’s Coronation in Oswestry’s Cae Glas Park. There will be children’s rides, magicians, circus performers, face-painting, Alpacas, stalls, street food and live music from Porth-y-waen brass band. A great way to enjoy a giant tea party and celebrate this historic occasion. Donations to the event can be made to local children’s hospice, Hope House. Further details to be announced once final timings of the Coronation are released, however the event is expected to open at 10am and close at 8pm.
The Beach, Festival Square – 27th to 29th May (Oswestry BID).
The Beach (yes, the beach!) returns to Oswestry at Festival Square. Grab a deckchair and your bucket and spade and enjoy some beach fun away from the sea! Festival Square is turned into a huge sandpit – perfect for the little ones and the young at heart to enjoy some messy fun without the clear up!
