Oswestry Town Council wins Council of the Year

Oswestry Town Council has won ‘Council of the Year’ in annual awards.

The National Association of Local Councils Star Council Awards were announced today (24 February) in a reception at the House of Lords.

The awards are the pinnacle of nationwide recognition for parish and town councils which strive to enrich the lives of residents and enhance local areas through dedication to community, collaboration and innovation.

The council beat competition from Saffron Walden Town Council in Essex, Saxmundham Town Council in Suffolk, Stratton St Margaret Parish Council in Wiltshire and Ware Town Council in Hertfordshire.

Mayor of Oswestry Cllr Rosie Radford said: “I feel proud and privileged to work alongside Oswestry Town Council, its amazing team of officers, my fellow councillors, and so many dedicated groups and individuals who care deeply about our town.

“Every day I see people quietly giving their time and energy to help others. They don’t do it for recognition – they do it because they care, and because they see a need and step forward. This award belongs to the whole community of Oswestry.”
