Bosses at a Shropshire windscreen company have expanded by opening doors to a new branch in North Wales.

National Windscreens, which runs a string of independently owned centres from its centre in Telford, have opened the new fitting centre on Llandygai Industrial Estate in Bangor after investing more than £50,000 in the branch.

It is part of the expansion plans of owners John Smallman and James Morgan who also own fitting centres in Oswestry and Wolverhampton, along with their operations and fitting centre on Halesfield in Telford.

The opening has created four new jobs so far with David Jones taking the helm as centre manager and Stuart Clowes and Gareth Hughes as mobile automotive glazing technicians and Mathew Jones as trainee technician.

Mr Smallman, who is a director of National Windscreens which is a network of branches across the UK and also co-owner of the four fitting centres, said: “We have very much wanted to open a new fitting centre in Bangor for a while but getting the right staff and the right unit in the right location was vital.

“As a company we have always serviced our customers in North Wales from our Oswestry fitting centre but due to the large area we cover and the rural setting it makes much more sense to have a dedicated fitting centre at the heart of North Wales.”

The business expansion is also due to the boom in the number of calibrations being carried out following a £1million investment programme to meet the growing demand for state of the art sensor and calibration technology.

Mr Smallman and Mr Morgan’s windscreen technicians can now carry out accurate calibrations of the vast majority of camera sensors at the time of windscreen replacement across their four fitting centres.

The investment has put National Windscreens as a market leader to meet the growing demand for camera and sensor calibration (CSC) for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist Systems).

Mr Morgan said: “Our technicians based at Bangor are out fitting at workplaces and at people’s homes but the customer now has that option to have their work done within the fitting centre.

“We will be recruiting more staff as the year goes on and we hope to offer our in-house training programme to more technicians as time goes on.”
