Following a couple of years of disruption due to the pandemic it is exciting news that the Oswestry Youth Music Festival will be held this year from the 2nd to the 6th of March.
This annual competition was first introduced in 1977 and has grown each year now attracting over a thousand participants of all ages. In fact, this year boasts the most entries to the event ever! There is a packed programme with over 80 classes to enter from beginners to experts, from singers to instrumentalists, from solo to bands.
The Festival is part of the British and European Federation of Festivals and the Oswestry Youth Music Committee are committed to running a practised event to a very high standard. The adjudications are professional and offer help and advice to each competitor and use the standard marking system – and every competitor receives a certificate whilst every class winner receives a trophy.
The Youth Music Festival attracts a large number of entrants from all over the North Wales/ West Midlands border area as well as Oswestry itself, and the standard just gets better from year to year. All the classes are free to watch, and we welcome audiences to come and enjoy the talented performances. The venues we will be using this year are Christchurch, The Methodist Church and the Hermon Chapel all within easy reach of each other.
For Class timings and performances please ring Oswestry Town Council on (01691) 680222 to request a copy of the programme or download it from the Town Council Website www.oswestry-tc.gov.uk.
