Oswestry’s Crafty Knitters have been hard at work using their needles and yarn to bring comfort to children in distress, supporting local emergency services with hundreds of handmade items.
The group has been knitting an impressive 999 teddies and 999 glove puppets for the local Police. These soft toys are carried in police vehicles and on officers’ person, ready to be given to children who may be upset or distressed during difficult situations. The teddies and puppets help to calm and distract children at what can be a frightening time.
Recently, 69 knitted teddies and glove puppets were proudly driven away in a police car, ready to be put to good use in the community.
In addition, the Crafty Knitters have also donated 40 St John Ambulance teddies, complete with knitted uniforms, to Oswestry St John Ambulance. These will be given to children in distress and to young St John cadets as a source of comfort and encouragement.
A spokesperson for the group said the knitters are delighted to know their creations are making a real difference locally and are always happy to welcome new members.
