The Oswestry Volunteers (Osyteers) have completed another job for local residents while helping to keep usable equipment out of landfill.
Local resident and volunteer Willow Sterrick recently collected redundant hospital equipment from a resident who intended to take it to the tip. Instead of being scrapped, the equipment will be collected from the recycling centre and refurbished for reuse by Medequip. The company provides community equipment services on behalf of local authorities and the NHS across the UK, managing the collection, deep cleaning and recycling of loaned independent living equipment.
If members of the public have loaned NHS equipment bearing a Medequip or NHS label, it should not be sold or disposed of. Instead, it should be returned so it can be safely refurbished or stripped down for parts to help others in need. Large items can be collected by Medequip by prior arrangement, while smaller items should be returned to the location from which they were originally supplied. If returning equipment is difficult, residents are encouraged to contact Willow at Osyteers to see if assistance can be provided.
Osyteers is the community project of the Oswestry Rotaract Club, a partner organisation of Rotary International.
The group welcomes ex-tradespeople, keen DIY enthusiasts, budding gardeners, and anyone with a little spare time who would like to help others in the community while enjoying the company of like-minded volunteers. As well as carrying out practical jobs, Osyteers also offers a friendly social environment for its members.
