The Oswestry Volunteers (Osyteers) have completed their first odd job for an elderly resident.
Local resident and volunteer, Les Maguire, fitted a key safe for Julie Bubb, who supplied the key safe herself. Les said that it was a pleasure to help a resident who had found it difficult to find someone locally to complete such a small task. The Osyteers were therefore very pleased to assist her.
Osyteers was originally created in 2011 by local resident Mike Lade, and the initiative had a positive impact by carrying out one-off odd jobs for those in need of support. Tasks ranged from gardening and weeding to minor repairs and simple household jobs such as replacing light bulbs. The project sadly came to an end during the COVID-19 pandemic, but is now being revived. Mike Lade is working alongside Willow Hopkins to bring Osyteers back to Oswestry.
Osyteers is a community project of the Oswestry Rotaract Club, which is a partner organisation of Rotary International.
The group is now seeking new members. Former tradespeople, keen DIY enthusiasts, and budding gardeners with some spare time are encouraged to join and support others in the community while enjoying the social aspect of the group.
At present, the organisers are gathering names and contact details of interested individuals. An evening meeting will be arranged to bring everyone together and explain how the group will operate.
