The Oswestry Volunteers, known as Osyteers, are making a welcome return and are calling on local residents to join their community team to support elderly and vulnerable people across Oswestry.
Originally founded in 2011 by local resident Mike Lade, Osyteers made a significant difference by carrying out small, one-off jobs for those in need. From gardening and weeding to simple home repairs and even changing light bulbs, the group provided practical help that had a big impact. The initiative sadly came to an end during the Covid pandemic—but is now being revived.
Mike Lade is teaming up with Willow Hopkins to relaunch Osyteers and bring the much-valued service back to the town.
The group is now looking for volunteers. Whether you are a retired tradesperson, a keen DIY enthusiast, a budding gardener, or someone who can help with administration, Osyteers would love to hear from you. Anyone with a little spare time and a willingness to help others is encouraged to get involved.
As well as supporting the community, Osyteers will also offer a social aspect, giving volunteers the chance to meet others and enjoy being part of a friendly, local group.
At this stage, the organisers are gathering names and contact details from interested individuals. An introductory evening meeting will be arranged to explain how the group will operate and to bring volunteers together.
