Now that Covid-prevention measures are being relaxed and most of us are able to socialise more freely, why not consider joining a new group?
Phoenix was started in 2009 by a small group of women in Selattyn. Their aim was to meet socially on a regular basis to enjoy talks by invited speakers on a wide range of different subjects. Since then, Phoenix has grown and spread its wings and now includes members from Weston Rhyn, Oswestry and further afield.
Rita Duncan said, “We meet on a Thursday evening, once a month, in Weston Rhyn. Recently members have enjoyed talks on subjects including local history and wildlife, pub signs, the coming of electricity, hearing dogs, and a children’s hospital in Cambodia. Each evenings meeting ends with coffee, cakes and time to socialise.
“As well as attending monthly talks some members meet occasionally for morning coffee at various venues in the locality. An annual summer outing is also arranged, either to a house and garden or other interesting destination.”
“Do consider joining us. Membership is £20 a year, but you are welcome to come along to a meeting and try it out for free.”
