The popular Across the Cynllaith Hillwalk will return on Saturday 23 May 2026, inviting walkers and runners to experience a spectacular journey through the rolling countryside along the Shropshire–Mid Wales border.
Organised from Trefonen Village Hall, the event offers two fully supported route options of 10 miles or 16 miles, both showcasing fields, woodland, lanes and open moorland, with river crossings over the Afon Cynllaith and panoramic hilltop views. Both routes finish on the Offa’s Dyke National Trail, providing participants with outstanding scenery throughout the day.
The 10-mile route is circular, while the 16-mile route forms a figure-of-eight, with Llansilin at its centre. Participants may choose their route on the day and even switch mid-walk if conditions or energy levels require. Routes will be clearly marked, marshalled and supported with written directions provided as backup.
Registration opens at Trefonen Village Hall (SY10 9DG) from 8.00am, with all walkers required to start by 9.30am. Checkpoints will be located at Llansilin, Craig Sychtyn and the finish, offering refreshments including water, hot drinks and snacks. Toilets and parking facilities will be available at both Trefonen and Llansilin.
Entry fees are £1 for under-16s (who must be accompanied by an adult) and £10 for adults, rising to £15 after 16 May 2026. Entries are limited to 300 participants and close on Wednesday 20 May 2026. Online entry is available via:

Event organiser Artie Edmonds commented that the Cynllaith Hillwalk continues to attract participants for its friendly atmosphere, flexible routes and exceptional landscapes, making it suitable for experienced hillwalkers, casual walkers and runners alike.
