An event aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of dementia is taking place in Ellesmere next weekend.

People from the local community are being invited to attend a one-hour session at the town’s St Mary’s Parish Church between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday afternoon , May 23.

The session has been organised by Jeremy Stretton, local co-ordinator for the Lichfield Diocese’s Dementia Friendly Church initiative.

He explained: “This is an opportunity for people to come along to a relatively informal yet informative get-together where we’ll give them an overview of what dementia is, help them gain an understanding of its effects and provide advice to remove some of the stigma that still surrounds the condition..

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to contact Mr Stretton on 01691 624772 or email him at jeremy.stretton@icloud.com.

St Mary’s church, in partnership with Ellesmere Methodist Church already holds regular services for people affected by dementia and their carers.
