Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, the region’s primary cancer charity, has announced an exciting recruitment drive for 2025 to help it meet visionary and ambitious goals for the community.
As well as recruiting for two full-time members of staff, the organisation which marked its 45th anniversary last year, is also calling for people interested in becoming a volunteer trustee to get involved in shaping the charity’s future.
Lingen Davies was established in 1979 to bring cancer services to Shropshire and benefit the people of the county and Mid Wales. Since that time it has delivered an impressive portfolio of projects and fundraising drives to ensure local people can access the best cancer services locally. It has also exceeded the £1,000,000 fundraising mark for the last three years.
Looking ahead to 2029, when the charity will celebrate its golden anniversary, trustees have set dynamic and exciting targets to continue driving improvements in local cancer services. This includes further prevention work in the community raising awareness about cancer and helping to contribute to more people seeking an early diagnosis, as well as supporting multi-million-pound projects for patients in the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The organisation also delivers funding for a wide range of health and wellbeing projects accessible to those living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis. These include free to access yoga, tai chi, horticultural therapies, dance, cancer rehabilitation groups, and more.
Tim Cooper, Chair of Trustees for Lingen Davies, said 2025 is a pivotal time for the charity as it looks to build on successes of the last five years and build on those ahead of the 50th anniversary year.
“The charity has grown significantly in recent years, within income having exceeded £1m annually since 2022. We have ambitions goals to grow our fundraising and service delivery activities much further and have some major plans to be launched in the coming months.
“We estimate over 100,000 people have had their cancer treatment and care improved through the impact of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, and even more have felt the impact through our wider work. Lingen Davies has diversified its activities in recent years, and we are seeking exceptional people to use their skills, expertise and connections to help us achieve new levels of impact in our community.
“Trustees are key to the governance and vision of the charity and it is an enormously rewarding voluntary role. The Board is currently made up of six dedicated members with a diverse range of backgrounds, we are calling on our community to join us and help make a real, positive difference to lives impacted by cancer locally,” he added.
Informal open evenings for those interested in finding out about becoming a trustee will be held on Wednesday, 29th January, and Thursday, 6th February, at The Hamar Centre, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
