Scaffolding will soon be going up around Grade I listed Llwyd Mansion in preparation for restoration work to begin.
Like many historic buildings, Llwyd Mansion has accumulated decades of well-intentioned but ultimately inadequate repairs. Oswestry Town Council is now taking the proper steps to put things right for the long term, made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England.
Detailed structural surveys have identified significant issues with the gable end of the building that need to be addressed as a priority.
To ensure the safety of everyone passing by while this restoration work is planned and carried out, shoring scaffolding will be erected around the building. This is a precautionary measure that will take around two weeks to install and it will remain in place throughout the restoration project which will take approximately two to three years.
Samantha Jones, Llwyd Mansion: Framing the Future Project Manager, said: ‘We really appreciated everyone’s understanding as we work to secure the future of this important building.
“We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum but there will be some noise as the scaffolding goes up, particularly in the first few days. The bottom section of Bailey Street will also be pedestrian access only.”
Once installed, a large-scale building wrap will cover the scaffolding to keep the appearance of the area as pleasant as possible during the restoration.
