An Oswestry firefighter has been commended for 20 years of service at evening celebrating the achievements of Shropshire’s fire fighters.
Chief fire officer Rod Hammerton said that in a fire, explosion or car crash, firefighters run towards danger when most are running away.
“They are willing to dedicate their lives to keeping the public safe in the firm understanding that on occasion they will have to put themselves at risk. Not one of them will consider themselves heroic in any way. They are just doing their job.”
“They put others before themselves and for that alone they deserve our admiration, respect and thanks.”
