A Shropshire law firm is offering support to anyone who has suffered pregnancy or baby loss, and helping to “break the taboo” of speaking about bereavement.
Clinical negligence specialists at Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors are working with dozens of families affected by the maternity scandal at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, and say bereavement support is a vital part of coming to terms with the tragic loss of a baby.
The firm is supporting Baby Loss Awareness Week, which runs from October 9 to 15, by standing with bereaved families who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss.
Laura Weir, a Partner in the Clinical Negligence team, said it was important to take time to reflect and remember all of the babies lost too soon.
“As we continue to support a large number of families in Shropshire, Wrekin and Mid Wales whose babies died at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, we feel the impact of baby loss more than ever,” she said.
“Alongside our relentless fight for justice for these families, we will continue to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss; the importance that bereavement support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey; and of the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives.
“With an increasing number of maternity care reviews being undertaken across the UK, ensuring safe maternity care is a bigger priority than ever.
“This week the team and I will be wearing pink and blue and engaging in social media campaigns to support the Baby Loss Awareness Week movement. We stand with the families affected and hope we can play a small role in breaking the taboo of talking about baby loss.”
Laura said if anyone had suffered pregnancy or baby loss, whether due to medical negligence or not, the team at Lanyon Bowdler could direct them to the appropriate support, having made invaluable links with local charities and organisations.
She added: “We will always be pleased to hear from anyone who needs help or support. Please do reach out to us by visiting the website at www.lblaw.co.uk.
“I would also urge people to please join the Baby Loss Awareness campaign on social media by using the hashtag #BLAW.”
