The Shropshire Union Canal Society (SUCS) is pleased to announce the expansion of its canal enhancement team, following a successful work party held recently at Ellesmere.

Six new volunteers completed hedge-cutting training and are now fully equipped to contribute to the ongoing improvement and upkeep of the canal environment. Under the leadership of David Carter, who has guided the enhancement team for several years, the group carries out vital yet simple tasks such as hedge cutting, towpath tidying, and painting canal-side furniture.

“We’re doing relatively basic jobs, but it seems to make a big difference, judging by the comments we get from visitors and passers-by,” said David Carter. “We now have a trained team, but there’s always room for more. If you fancy joining us, you’d be very welcome.”

The enhancement team typically meets once a month, and new volunteers of all experience levels are encouraged to get involved. This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy the outdoors and want to contribute to preserving the beauty and accessibility of the Shropshire Union Canal.
