Akaash Das a student of Oswestry School and a Member of Oswestry Otters ASC is Shropshire’s youngest Classified Para-Swimmer at the age of 10.

After a long wait, Akaash gained his full classification at the start of this year and was eager to show off his ability and determination at the National Junior Para-Swimming Championship at Liverpool Aquatic Centre on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March.

Over 116 athletes across the Country were scheduled to take part alongside Akaash. This new environment and atmosphere didn’t deter the young swimmer as he came away from a fabulous day with Gold medals in the 100 and 50 Free (S8 age 10-13yrs) and new PB’s!

It would of been a silver in the breaststroke too after knocking an impressive 13 secs off his entry time! However, was unfortunately disqualified for bring his hands down past his hips post turn.

Oswestry Otters ASC facebook page exploded with congratulations for this young star, with his parents adding “He was overall absolutely thrilled. Thanks again everyone for your words of support and fantastic coaching!”

The coaching team at the club are very excited to see how Akaash will develop over this coming season and beyond and hope the awareness of Para-Swimming grows in the country so we can see more young stars taking a spot on the swimming podium.
