Every year, staff at Aico Ltd are asked to nominate a charity of their choice to receive a donation. The nominations take place in November, with the charities receiving the donation before Christmas. This year’s donations amounted to the significant sum of £70,000.

Every member of staff is asked to nominate a charity of their choice, no matter the location or the size of the charity. Neal Hooper, Managing Director for Aico explains “we feel it is important to ask our staff for nominations, this enables us to support a variety of charities in the local and wider area that are close to our staff’s hearts.”

This year, the charities receiving donations included Derwen College and The Movement Centre, based in North Shropshire.

Aico’s Marketing Manager, Jo White, chose a charity that she had experienced first-hand “Every member of staff at Aico were given the opportunity to put forward a charity of their choice to receive a donation. I nominated Derwen College Satellite Centres because I worked alongside them for many years whilst working in education and saw first-hand the difference that the satellite centres make to young people’s lives.”

Derwen College Area Satellite Manager Peter Leddington said that staff and students were delighted with the kind donation which will benefit their students to reach their aspirations with their chosen career pathway, work experience and life skills.

He said: “To say we are over the moon is an understatement. The team and our students will be really pleased. We are very proud to be working with a Shropshire-based company that takes education and social responsibilities so seriously. These funds are supporting a college that changes people’s lives.

Curtis Langley from The Movement Centre contacted Aico to say “We were over the moon when we received a donation of £1000 from Aico in November. The work that Aico do with charities is fantastic, and as a charity having support and partnerships from local businesses really does make a big difference.

Based in Shropshire, The Movement Centre is a charity providing a specialist therapy for children, called Targeted Training. The children who come to The Movement Centre have a disability that affects their movement control, such as Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome or Global Developmental Delay. This means they may be unable to lift their head, to sit without support or find it challenging to stand or take their first steps.

The generous donation from Aico will help us continue to support children. A massive thank you to all of the team at Aico”

So far this year, Aico has donated £100,000 to charities which includes £28,620 raised for the Electrical Industries Charity.

Aico will be releasing their Charity of the Year for 2019 during the first half of January.
