North Shropshire College (NSC) recently celebrated a successful end to the year as it held its Annual Awards Evening at NSC’s Oswestry Campus. The event was attended by staff, students, parents and members of the Board of Governors. The College was also pleased to welcome Danielle Brown MBE a Paralympic Gold Medallist, who presented the students with their awards and also impressed the audience with her inspirational speech.

Students from across the College received individual glass awards to recognise their achievements this year and for the most prestigious achievements, cups and trophies were updated with these years’ winners. The winners and their families were also treated to music from the very talented Reece Wiltshire-Fessey one of the College’s very own plumbing students. Students from Scholars Restaurant created and served delicious canapés to the guests.

Among the students who received recognition for their achievements this year was Georgina Scott, who won the prestigious overall Student of the Year award. Georgina was presented with a prize by local business, Aico Ltd who sponsored the award. Georgina commented, ‘I am very honoured to be chosen for student of the year and would like to say thank you to the ladies from Aico for my prize.’

As well as students, a very special staff member also had their outstanding contribution recognised at the awards evening. Marion Ellis who has worked at the College for over 30 years as a cook received a Contribution to College Life Award to recognise her dedication and exceptional customer service during these years. Marion said of her award, ‘It was absolutely lovely to get the award; it will take pride of place in my cabinet at home.’

Lucy Evans, Marketing and Customer Service Manager at NSC comments; ‘The event was a huge success, I would like to thank Clive Knowles from the British Ironwork Centre for donating the wonderful giraffe sculptures for our event. I’d also like to thank our Guest speaker, Danielle Brown MBE for attending, she was truly inspirational.’
