Moreton Hall students are celebrating the start of the hockey season with a series of triumphs following their first place victory in the Shropshire County Championships, held at Shrewsbury School. Moreton Hall U16s were crowned champions winning all five of their games, including the final 1-0 against Wrekin College.

In addition, Moreton Hall U14s played the best schools in Shropshire and equally finished champions showing great composure under pressure and beating Shrewsbury School in the final.

Moreton Hall U18s were ranked second on goal difference after finishing equal on points with the eventual competition winners.

The school’s recent successes are attributed to the enhanced coaching the students have received over the past twelve months from Moreton Hall’s Head of Hockey Chris Prosser, who is also a member of the England Hockey Performance Centre working with the Midlands U15 and U17 boys and Shropshire County U17 Coach.

Chris said: “I am delighted to see the strength and depth of the girls playing Hockey here at Moreton. It is a fantastic achievement for the school to become Shropshire Hockey champions at U14 and U16 while coming second at U18 by the narrowest of margins. The girls have been working incredibly hard on and off the pitch this term and it is really starting to pay off as it shows with the results.”

Alison McDonald, Director of Sport at Moreton Hall, said: “Chris has been developing, over the last 12 months, an environment to help the students grow and develop using the skill set he has acquired as a professional coach.

“Having these strong England Hockey Player Pathway links assists our girls in getting the exposure and opportunity they need to develop their Hockey further.

“We currently have girls involved in a range of Shropshire Academy Centre teams across the year groups. Alongside this, one Moreton student is in the England Hockey Performance Centre U15 age group.”

Alison concluded: “It is so great to see girls from all levels, from performance to participation, enjoying sport at Moreton and getting onto the Hockey pitch to represent their school.”

Moreton Hall’s U14, U16 and U18 teams will now all be heading to the Regional Finals later this term to compete with the best schools in the Midlands.
