Suzannah retires after almost a decade of dedication to Oswestry charity

A dedicated charity worker who has made “a big difference” to the lives of people with physical disabilities is retiring after more than eight years in her Oswestry role.

Suzannah Smith is stepping down from her role at the Ethos Group, running the charity’s three adapted bungalows in Oswestry.

The Ethos Group provides short-term accommodation and support for people with life-changing physical disabilities to prepare them for independent living - and helps them to find a permanent future home to suit their needs.

The 63-year-old from near Oswestry will wave goodbye to the team and clients this Friday (20 December).

Mrs Smith said: “I’m looking forward to retirement but I’m sad to leave Ethos and my role as Housing Facilities Co-ordinator. I’ve met a lot of great people during my time here.

“I’ve enjoyed looking after the buildings, taking new clients around, ensuring everyone’s safety, that everything’s working, and alongside the independent living advisor, checking that clients have all the equipment they need while they are with us and when they move on.

“I’ll really miss the team and the clients but it will also be lovely to spend more time at home, with my grandchildren and on my hobbies, including gardening and singing.”

Fae Dromgool, Ethos Chief Executive said: “Suzannah has been an integral part of the team in her eight-and-a-half years with us and will be greatly missed.

“She has helped so many clients, making sure everything is in place for them to make the transition from hospital or the community to their own home, and in turn making a big difference to their lives.

“It’s been fantastic to work with Suzannah and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”

The Ethos Group’s three properties can accommodate up to 10 clients, each having their own bedroom, private access and shared communal facilities.
