54 Year 6 students from Oswestry and surrounding areas recently embarked on a trip to Chester University on Tuesday 26th September, as part a competition run by The Marches School. The trip to Chester University was designed to ignite the aspirations of Year 6 students and provide them with an insight into Higher Education and the opportunities that will be available to them in the future.
Students spent the day at the Chester University Parkgate Road Campus and attended a range of activities and presentations organised by Isobel Leah from the Outreach Team. Activities included ‘Step into Secondary’ by Performing Pathways, a ‘University Journey’ workshop and a graduation ceremony, where students collected their certificates wearing their very own mortar boards which they made themselves.
Students also enjoyed a full tour of the campus and facilities by the student ambassadors and found out, first hand, what being a university student is really like.
The Primary Schools involved were Woodside Primary, Holy Trinity C of E Primary, Trefonen C of E Primary, The Meadows Primary, Whittington Primary and Our Lady and St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School .
Year 6 pupil commented, “I had a great day, Chester is where I was born and I think I might come here for university”. Another pupil said, “I loved it! I learnt a lot and I am feeling a bit better about high school and what I want to do”.
