The Marches School have joined forces with one of the country’s leading independent book shops Booka Books in hosting one of just five events in the UK where the Biggest Book Show on Earth has taken place.

Over 500 Year 5 and 6 students from the local area attended the exclusive event on Tuesday 27th February where authors, illustrators and publicists inspired and mesmerised the next generation of literary readers and writers.

Talented authors Abi Elphinstone, Olaf Falafel, Andy Griffiths, Katherine Woodfine and Jennifer Bell were present at the unmissable, one-of-a-kind event and read and spoke to the pupils about the world of books, the aspirations the pupils have and the opportunities being an author brings.

There was a surprise visit from the world famous James and the Giant Peach, by legendary children’s writer Roald Dahl.

Pupils also had the opportunity to have their books signed by the authors.

Carrie Morris, from Booka Books, commented, “To be able to bring an event like this to the young people of Oswestry and the surrounding area is fantastic and we are privileged to be organising such an event with the published authors involved”.

Hugh Jackson, Assistant Head Teacher from The Marches School, added, “We are tremendously excited to be hosting this event and cannot wait to hear from the authors about the world of writing and inspiring young people to read and write more”.
