People living with Parkinson’s in Oswestry and the surrounding area are being invited to take part in a new and innovative exercise project from the community team at The New Saints FC Foundation.

The new “Games Room” sessions offer a range of enjoyable physical activities designed to help people with Parkinson’s stay active, socialise and live well together in a supportive environment.

Session details:

When: Every Tuesday, 10:30am – 12:00pm
Where: The New Saints FC Foundation, The Centre Spot, Oak Street, Oswestry, Shropshire, SY11 1LJ
Cost: £2.50 per person (including refreshments)

The Games Room provides a variety of accessible activities including table tennis, boccia, pickleball and new age kurling. Sessions are delivered by experienced instructors and are designed to help participants maintain physical activity and wellbeing during the winter and spring months.

All ages and abilities are welcome to attend, and no previous experience of the activities is required. Carers, relatives and anyone connected to someone living with Parkinson’s are also welcome to attend, watch or take part.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable activewear and sensible footwear, and to bring a bottle of water. Refreshments are included in the weekly cost, and there will be opportunities to socialise after each session.

Gill Jones, Foundation Manager at The New Saints Foundation, said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer these new activities for local people living with Parkinson’s.

“There is considerable evidence that exercise of any kind can help relieve some of the symptoms experienced by people living with Parkinson’s.

“We hope these friendly and informal activity sessions, supported by our qualified coaches, will encourage people who may not previously have considered trying physical activities to come along — with or without friends and family — and simply ‘have a go’.”
