Tallie Brazier, a popular young woman from Oswestry, sadly passed away in April this year. In honour of Tallie, Kev Potts and Josh Pearce have set up a women’s 8-a-side charity tournament in her memory to raise funds for her favourite charity, the Sea Watch Foundation. Tallie had been a faithful supporter of The New Saints Football Club and played goalkeeper for The New Saints Women at youth level.
The tournament took place on 30 June with a total of 10 women’s teams playing for the Tallie Brazier Cup. A stand in cup was used, whilst the actual cup is being made by The British Ironworks and will be ready before the end of the year.
The cup winners were Shifnal Town Ladies FC who beat Berriew in a closely fought final. Throughout the day all the players signed a special GK shirt which was then presented to Cady, Tallie’s sister. This is currently being framed by Oswestry Framing Company.
Along with the tournament there was a raffle and auction. “The kindness shown by all the local businesses was awesome with over 80 prizes up for grabs plus 6 incredible auction lots. Sainsburys also held a collection at their checkouts which raised £426.56 as well as donating water and bananas for the players and officials,” Kev explained.
Josh added, “We would personally like to thank The New Saints for giving us their facilities for the entire day. Also, to The New Saints’ Simon O’Reilly and James Steer, their help throughout the day was priceless. Huge thanks also goes to Andy Poole at Macron and Oswestry Life Magazine for sponsoring our event.
“Thank you to everyone that helped on the day, donated a prize to the raffle and auction, sponsored the equipment, medals and trophies. Finally, to everyone that bought raffle tickets and supported our great event.
“We’re very pleased to announce we have raised a phenomenal £6,550 which is going to Tallie’s charity, the Sea Watch Foundation.”
This is the start of an annual event, so Kev and Josh will soon be bringing a committee together to share the workload. If you would like to be part of this committee please email kevpotts2005@btinternet.com.
