Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is currently looking to recruit volunteer helpers for its dementia support group in Oswestry.

The group takes place at Yorkfields. It runs on a fortnightly basis on Mondays, between 11.00am to 1.00pm. Activities include reminiscence, storytelling, singing, music and crafts. Volunteer helpers welcome members and their carers, serve refreshments, help with activities, serve lunch and refreshments and wash up and tidy. Lunch is provided for volunteers.

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: “Our dementia support groups offer support to local people with dementia and memory difficulties, their families, carers and friends. They provide a chance to get to know others and share experiences in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, provide information and an opportunity to take part in interesting activities, coordinated through a team of trained volunteers. We are looking to recruit two more volunteers for the Oswestry group. We would be delighted to hear from people who have some experience of dementia and are able to show empathy and patience with our client group.”

If you are considering volunteering and want to visit the group before you decide, please contact Janice Williams or Becky Kelly on 01743 588 570.

Alternatively, if you wish to find out more about volunteering in general, then please email volunteering@ageukstw.org.uk or visit www.ageukshropshireandtelford.org.uk.

Training and support will be provided by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, and out of pocket expenses are paid.
