Hot on the heels of being named Shropshire Lawn Tennis Association’s Young Person of the Year, 19-year-old Erin Oakley from Oswestry is launching a series of fun-filled summer sports festival days for kids at Oswestry Showground this summer.
The multi-talented teenager, a former County tennis player, ex-TNS and Wrexham FCs youth footballer, and an award-winning all-rounder in the successful Oswestry Women & Girls’ cricket team, established her own sports coaching business last year.
The young entrepreneur has a host of recognised coaching qualifications, including from UEFA, FAW, the LTA and ECB in football, tennis and cricket respectively.
The sports festivals will take place between 9am – 2pm each day across the 10th, 11th, 12th August, with 12th August dedicated as a girls’ only day.
With early expressions of interest already coming in, a further three dates have been added at the end of the school holidays on 24th, 25th and 26th August, again at the Oswestry Showground
As well as high quality coaching on offer, a host of fun games and activities will be delivered by Erin at the showground. She will be supported by fellow experienced coaches all with advanced DBS certification. The cost per day is £30, which includes a goodie bag and free T-shirt for participants. Booking is essential.
Determined to bypass university and go straight into setting up her own sports coaching business, Erin launched the Oakley Method last summer and hasn’t looked back. “I’m absolutely loving it,” she said. “Seeing youngsters who love sport as much as I do take the next steps to becoming more accomplished in their chosen discipline is wonderful and helping them improve a privilege.
“The aim of the Oakley Method Sports Festival days this summer is to deliver a quality experience for kids and young people that will not only be huge fun but build skills and confidence in the younger ones and improve skills and technique for the older age groups.”
