In May Hermon Jazz proudly presents this impressive combination of top-notch Jazz players who will stop over in Oswestry to play a preview concert ahead of their appearance at Manchester Jazz Festival the following day! The duo of pianist Alcyona Mick and Tori Freestone on saxes and flute will be joined at this occasion by special guest Brigitte Beraha who features with stunningly inventive vocals on the duo’s most recent album ‘Criss Cross’.

’’The tracks contain some of the finest interplay I have heard since Stan Getz and Kenny Barron recorded ‘People Time’, the playing is that wondrous...Without a doubt one of the finest albums of the year!’’
- Jazz Journal

"Elegant, engaging and original music, played with magnificent panache."
- ★★★★ All About Jazz

’’The exchanges between the three protagonists are thrilling, with Beraha also engaging with Mick in a vivacious musical dialogue. There’s also a lively exchange between flute and piano but ultimately it’s the sound of the three musicians interacting collectively that represents the greatest highlight.’’
- The Jazzmann

Tori and Alcyona formed their duo in 2015 playing Thelonious Monk tunes on a project in the Canary Islands, and were given their first platform at Manchester Jazz Festival in 2015. Both much in demand players on the London Jazz scene, the two have been working alongside each other in many different ensembles including the London Jazz Orchestra and the Nikki Isles Big Band.

They recorded their debut album ‘Criss Crossʼ at the famous Artesuono Studio in Udine, Italy in 2017, featuring special guest vocalist Brigitte Beraha. It was released on the transatlantic label Whirlwind Recordings in 2018, followed by an Arts Council of England supported tour of the UK and Germany, which included prestigious venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Vortex London, Halle 424 in Hamburg and numerous National and International Jazz Festivals.

The three musicians perform with a playful and interactive approach inspired by a large range of shared musical influences, such as Jazz, Brazilian music, English folk, Latin, Arabic and free play. In 2019 they are set to tour and perform at venues and festivals in the UK, Luxembourg, Germany and Spain - and yes, indeed, at The Hermon in Oswestry J!
