When attending the cinema an audience is expected to remain quietly in the seat for the duration of the film in a darkened auditorium. For many parents with young children this would deter them from attending and enjoying a cinema experience. The Holroyd Community Theatre has taken on board feedback from its audience members and is thrilled to announce a relaxed, family friendly screening of ‘The Minions Movie (PG)’ following the success of the Christmas screening of ‘The Grinch (U)’.
To create this relaxed screening, the theatre will be leaving their doors open, lights on and using the foyer as a safe quiet space. The house will be open early for the audience to get used to their new surroundings and so that they can freely move around during the performance.
The screening is adapted in a variety of ways to help reduce anxiety and overstimulation to ensure a safe environment for those who would usually find the cinema or theatre overwhelming. The theatre often sees parents with young children leaving a performance due to their little one becoming restless but The Holroyd Community Theatre hopes that this will allow parents to relax and move about as much as they like without feeling self conscious.
Minions (2015) introduces families to the much loved Minions, before they met Gru. The Minions have lived to serve the most despicable of masters since the dawn of time. They have helped the biggest and baddest of villains from the T-Rex to Napoleon, but they are easily distracted while doing so. Now, join Kevin – their protective leader, Stuart – a teenage rebel and Bob – little and loveable, as they go on a global road trip to find the most dreadful villain there is.
The Theatre’s Event Manager, Yvonne Beach said: “As a community theatre it is important to us that we open our doors to everyone and be all inclusive. With this relaxed viewing performance we hope that those who wouldn’t normally feel able to attend, and those with young families, will have the confidence to come and have fun in our non-judgemental environment. After December’s relaxed cinema screening it was wonderful to see how excited everyone was after the film. For one young boy it was his first experience at a cinema, afterwards I was told he wanted to come back to see ‘Minions on the big screen’, his favourite – so our next screening is for him! ”
The Minion Movie (PG), will take place on Saturday 24th February, 10.30am. A drink and snack are included on arrival for £3.50.
