Eleven remarkable runners have more than doubled their fundraising target, raising £40,000 for local cancer services.

The runners took on the London Marathon for the region’s main cancer charity, Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. The charity has several places each year, with applications for 2024 already open.

The charity held a Celebration Evening for the runners on yesterday to congratulate them on their success and tell them about how their money would be utilised. The runners have supported one another throughout the training process, sharing their experiences and top tips.

Lingen Davies funds equipment and support services to improve the lives of those affected by cancer and raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and attending your cancer screenings.

Helen Knight, Head of Fundraising, said Lingen Davies are extremely proud of the runners for completing the marathon and raising vital funds for the charity.

“Thank you to all eleven runners for representing the charity. Each runner has exceeded their fundraising target, more than doubling the team’s predicted income. Most London Marathon Runners get much longer to fundraise and train but due to the change in date from October to April, they had a much shorter amount of time to prepare. Running the marathon is a big commitment to both the runner and their family but all of our runners have taken it in their stride and absolutely smashed it!

“The money raised will go towards funding new equipment and support services. There is always new equipment to buy to improve our local services, the list is never ending,” she added.
