Many Oswestry residents will have seen Oswestry Cambrian Rotary member “Christmas Tree Roger”, aka Roger Whitting, around the streets or outside of the supermarkets in his decorated electric wheelchair with a yellow collection bucket on the front for people to donate money. He has raised many hundreds of pounds already this year for the Poppy Appeal, Oswestry Cambrian Rotary, Christmas Parade.

As the “mobile Christmas tree” Roger delivered his three personal “thank you” cards to The RJAH Orthopedic Hospital in Gobowen to the hospital and all the staff, vaccination team at the hospital and the League of Friends. He will also travel around the hospital grounds cheering up patients and staff, showing what can be done with a wheelchair to make people happy, raise a smile and raise money. He has a yellow bucket on the front of his chair collecting for anyone to make a donation.

Roger has designed and built his own system so that one Christmas tree, one special light for the front of the chair and four sets of lights, the electric wheelchair can be power for up to six hours.

Everything on his cape is home-made by Roger and has taken over 10 hours to make over the last few years and costing over £450 over the last three years to keep on improving it.

Well done Roger …… an inspiration.
