Keen footballer and sports fan Courtney Ashworth has joined the team at The New Saints FC Foundation to bring her love of sport to youngsters across the area.

Courtney, 22, who lives in Newtown, is the charity’s new full time community support and football lead. She spends her time organising sports and coaching activities in the community and as part of the school sports team.

Courtney had previously played for the TNS ladies team and joined the foundation part-time in 2022 to help with the summer activity programmes. She still plays in her spare time for Llanfair United.

“I love being part of getting young people involved in different sports. I went to university to study sports rehabilitation but then started doing some coaching work and changed direction. It’s a really rewarding role,” she said.

Courtney will be one of The New Saints FC Foundation team leading activity sessions across the Oswestry area over the Easter holidays.

The charity has joined forces with partners across the area to run multi activity events as part of the Shropshire Holiday Activities and Food programme.

The free sessions will feature fun activities, sports and games open to children of all abilities. Children at the holiday workshops will also receive free meals.

Sessions take place at various times from March 25 to April 5 at The Meadows and Woodside schools in Oswestry plus The Centre, Oswestry as well as venues in Ellesmere, Weston Rhyn, St Martins, Whittington, Morda.

Limited places are available and registration is essential. Further information and registration details are available by visiting the website at www.tnsfc.co.uk/foundation/holiday-activities
