Students and staff at North Shropshire College (NSC) are benefiting from a recent £550,000 funding package from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). The investment is being used to upgrade the College’s IT equipment across its campuses and has already greatly improved the equipment available to support students in the classroom.

The Marches LEP is a partnership of business, education and local authorities throughout Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Herefordshire, and is focused on driving accelerated economic growth in these regions through investment in innovation, business, housing and higher level skills. NSC Principal Ian Peake commented, “We are extremely grateful to the Marches LEP for this substantial capital investment, which provides North Shropshire College with state-of-the-art learning technologies, a transformation that will directly benefit our students.”

Among the many new systems and devices being installed are 26 Promethean ACTIVpanel touchscreens bringing students the latest interactive display technology, Apple iMac computers and Lenovo all-in-one desktop PC’s for the art and computer science departments, and new laptops and charging trolleys for the Oswestry and Walford Learning Resource Centres. The existing network and wifi infrastructure at the College has also been upgraded, providing a faster and more secure experience for visitors, staff and students.

As well as upgrades to larger IT systems, the College has also invested in large scale printers, a 3-D printer and new tablets to increase the productivity of its apprenticeship department. These will also provide a more interactive learning experience for students studying equine and animal care courses. There is also a new state-of-the-art JESDIGIT1 diagnostic system for motor vehicle students to use during their practical work.

Henry Nurdin, Information Systems Controller at NSC added, “This project has allowed the College to make a substantial investment in our IT infrastructure that will future-proof our learning environment for many years to come, and give our student body the benefits of cutting edge tools and technology.”
