Marches School students welcomed a special guest on Friday morning as North Shropshire Member of Parliament, Owen Paterson, visited the school.
The MP, who has been representing the North Shropshire constituency for 21 years, spoke to the students about a variety of subjects, including the subjects they are currently studying, what they wish to study in future, how he became an MP and what the future of the country will look like.
Mr Paterson was interested in hearing about the views of the students, and offered them advice on their next steps as they make the transition between school, further education and higher education.
He also spoke about Brexit, including the impending proposal that the Prime Minister, Theresa May, has offered, along with the effect that Brexit will have on their chosen paths in future employment.
Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire, commented: “It was a fantastic morning and I had a fascinating and interesting discussion with this generation. It was wonderful to hear that some of the students are interested in medicine and technology, which I see as excellent careers to aim for. I would like to congratulate the students for what they have achieved and wish them the best of luck for the future”.
Mrs Sarah Longville, CEO of the Marches Academy Trust, added: “It was wonderful to have the local MP come in and speak to our students about their futures and listen to any questions that the students have. We would like to thank Mr Paterson for his time and for talking to our students”.
