THERE is a new person at the helm of The Rotary Club of Oswestry. David Davies, President 2017-18, recently handed over the reins of the Club to Ian Glenister for 2018-19. A member of the Oswestry Club since 1996 with over 22 years Rotary experience, Ian chaired its Foundation Committee for many years and has often been one of those responsible for overseeing grants made by the Club’s Mary Hignett Bequest Fund.

Ian is currently a Partner at Lanyon Bowdler one of the most recognised firms of solicitors in Shropshire and Herefordshire. After qualifying in 1977, Ian became a Partner in a Northamptonshire firm before joining what was then the long-established Oswestry firm of Longueville Gittins (LG Solicitors) in 1990 where he has been a Partner since 1996.

Specialising in Commercial and Agricultural Property, Ian acts for a number of large landed estates and continued as a Partner with Lanyon Bowdler when they merged with LG Solicitors in 2010.

In quieter moments Ian likes travelling in Italy and Sicily and can be found relaxing by walking his terrier Poppy.

“I am looking forward to my year as President.” said Ian. “David is a hard act to follow and I’d like to thank him for his successful year. There will be many challenges ahead. Our Club carries out many projects in the Oswestry area and I will be able to have a deeper involvement this year.

“Through the network of Clubs across the world we are particularly proud that Rotary is making a difference in eradicating Polio. Closer to home, we also value the opportunities that we provide for young people and our local community.”

Ian’s year starts off with a BBQ party for Club members at Oswestry Cricket Club later in the month.
