Craftsmen from Shrewsbury-based Morris Joinery have built and installed a huge lantern light feature as part of a major restoration scheme at a Grade II* listed Oswestry mansion.
The team created the 3.3 metres wide octagonal lantern roof light, weighing 1,200 kilos, for the octagonal music room at Brogyntyn Hall in Oswestry.
The Hall is to become a private country home again after falling into disrepair. It has undergone an ambitious overhaul with the East Wing demolished and a new extension built.
Joinery Manager Matt Tyrrell said: “We made the lantern light from sapele hardwood. It was too big to go into our purpose-built spray booth, so we hand painted it in a white satin finish to the client’s specifications.
“The size also meant it took six of us to lift into place. We enjoyed working on such an interesting feature which adds further impact to an already impressive building.”
The Hall is being developed to be sold as a private country residence. Tamara Pickstock of owners J Ross Developments Ltd said: “We were replacing a Grade II* listed lantern that had sadly deteriorated beyond saving and thanks to the great experience we had working with Matt and Morris Joinery previously it seemed logical to work with them again.
“Thanks to Morris Joinery the installation and glazing of the lantern was seamless, it’s safe to say we’re a very satisfied customer.”
Morris Joinery was also commissioned to build 19 large sliding sash windows and ten full height sash shutters for Brogyntyn Hall.
